The Explorer
program is designed for young men and woman between the ages of 14 to 20 years
of age who are interested in exploring a career in law enforcement. The Post is
chartered through, and a member of, Boy Scouts of America and sponsored by the
Imperial County Sheriff?s Office. The Explorer Post trains in all aspects of
law enforcement from jail visitation, communications, to crime scene
investigation, crime prevention, and patrol procedures. We compete in various
Explorer competitions in California and Arizona, as well as camping in the
mountains and desert and taking on the challenge of confidence-building courses.
We have an award winning Color Guard that has participated in parades in California and Mexico. Our Color Guard has also had the honor and privilege of presenting colors at the funerals of fallen law enforcement officers and firefighters.
The purpose of the Explorer Post is to introduce members to current law enforcement standards, concepts, ideas, and techniques under the direction of sworn Law Enforcement Officers and Post Advisors. At every meeting there is a classroom instruction/scenarios involving topics in law enforcement, e.g. criminal law, first aid, traffic control, unarmed defense, firearms safety & qualification in both firearms arms and air-soft, just to name a few.
We also work special events and details. Often the Post is assigned details such as California Midwinter Fair security, Sheriff?s Command Center assisting with lost children and the processing of found property. The Post also works traffic control and security during the Imperial County Fourth of July Freedom Fest Fireworks Display held at Imperial Valley Collage, Pioneer Memorial Museum, and the Brawley Cattle Call Rodeo to name a very few. In August the Explorer Post also attends the San Diego County Law Enforcement Explorer Academy. We are an organization providing our members with a unique social outlet.
If you are interested in joining the Imperial County Sheriff?s Explorer Post #4500, or would simply like to find out more about the program, you are invited to come to a meeting. The meetings are held at the Imperial County Sheriff?s memorial Training Center. Training Center is located across the parking lot in front of the Sheriff?s Office Jail information lobby. We meet on the south patio at 5:15 PM every Thursday.
For more information Call Senior Deputy Andrew J. Lowenthal, the Explorer Post Coordinator @ (760) 455-7155

Russian-born French painter. Born to a humble Jewish family in the ghetto of a large town in White Russia, Chagall passed a childhood steeped in Hasidic culture.
Very early in life he was encouraged by his mother to follow his vocation and she managed to get him into a St Petersburg art school. Returning to Vitebsk, he became engaged to Bella Rosenfeld (whom he married twelve years later), then, in 1910, set off for Paris, 'the Mecca of art'.
He was a tenant at La Ruche, where he had Modigliani and Soutine for neighbours. His Slav Expressionism was tinged with the influence of Daumier, Jean-Fran?is Millet, the Nabis and the Fauves.
He was also influenced by Cubism. Essentially a colourist, Chagall was interested in the Simultaneist vision of Robert Delaunay and the Luminists of the Section d'Or.

Pablo Picasso, born in Spain, was a child prodigy who was recognized as such by his art-teacher father, who ably led him along.
The small Museo de Picasso in Barcelona is devoted primarily to his early works, which include strikingly realistic renderings of casts of ancient sculpture.
He was a rebel from the start and, as a teenager, began to frequent the Barcelona cafes where intellectuals gathered.
He soon went to Paris, the capital of art, and soaked up the works of Manet, Gustave Courbet, and Toulouse-Lautrec, whose sketchy style impressed him greatly. Then it was back to Spain, a return to France, and again back to Spain - all in the years 1899 to 1904.
