Deputy Arrested for Misconduct

On February 20, 2013, Sheriff’s Office Investigators received information alleging criminal misconduct on behalf of Stephen Lankford who is currently employed by the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff. Immediate attention was given to the matter and a criminal investigation was initiated. A thorough investigation led to the collection of evidence and witness testimony which corroborated the victim’s complaint.

Stephen Lankford was placed on paid administrative leave on February 28, 2013 and a parallel Administrative Investigation was initiated. The case was presented to the District Attorney’s Office for review and a criminal complaint was approved. An arrest warrant was issued on April 17, 2013 charging Stephen Lankford for oral copulation by a public official against the victim’s will.

The victim was identified as a 29 year old female from El Centro, CA. On April 22, 2013, Stephen Lankford was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Investigators without incident. He is currently being held at the Imperial County Jail with a $40, 000 dollar bail.
