Sheriff’s Explorers

The Explorer program is designed for young men and woman between the ages of 14 to 20 years of age who are interested in exploring a career in law enforcement. The Post is chartered through, and a member of, Boy Scouts of America and sponsored by the Imperial County Sheriff?s Office.  The Explorer Post trains in all aspects of law enforcement from jail visitation, communications, to crime scene investigation, crime prevention, and patrol procedures. We compete in various Explorer competitions in California and Arizona, as well as camping in the mountains and desert and taking on the challenge of confidence-building courses.

We have an award winning Color Guard that has participated in parades in California and Mexico. Our Color Guard has also had the honor and privilege of presenting colors at the funerals of fallen law enforcement officers and firefighters.

The purpose of the Explorer Post is to introduce members to current law enforcement standards, concepts, ideas, and techniques under the direction of sworn Law Enforcement Officers and Post Advisors. At every meeting there is a classroom  instruction/scenarios involving topics in law enforcement, e.g. criminal law, first aid, traffic control, unarmed defense, firearms safety & qualification in both firearms arms and air-soft, just to name a few.

We also work special events and details. Often the Post is assigned details such as California Midwinter Fair security, Sheriff?s Command Center assisting with lost children and the processing of found property. The Post also works traffic control and security during the Imperial County Fourth of July Freedom Fest Fireworks Display held at Imperial Valley Collage, Pioneer Memorial Museum, and the Brawley Cattle Call Rodeo to name a very few.  In August the Explorer Post also attends the San Diego County Law Enforcement Explorer Academy.  We are an organization providing our members with a unique social outlet.

If you are interested in joining the Imperial County Sheriff?s Explorer Post #4500, or would simply like to find out more about the program, you are invited to come to a meeting.  The meetings are held at the Imperial County Sheriff?s memorial Training Center.  Training Center is located across the parking lot in front of the Sheriff?s Office Jail information lobby.  We meet on the south patio at 5:15 PM every Thursday.
